Ovarian Cyst


Ovarian cyst is collection sacs that are filled with fluid inside the ovary. Any ovarian follicleof the size of two centimeters is called as an ovarian cyst. The sized of the cyst can be as large as orange or it can also be of the size of a peanut

Usually these cysts are functional and harmless or benign and approximately 14.8% of the women who have crossed postmenopause are diagnosed with ovarian cysts. While it can affect women of different age groups and also during childbirth a women is prone to get these cysts.

Few ovarian cysts can cause problems for women like bleeding and pain, at times even surgery is required to remove cysts that are more than 5 centimeters in diameter.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cysts :

  • Dull aching, or severe, sudden, and sharp pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen
  • Fullness, heaviness, pressure, swelling, or bloating in the abdomen
  • Breast tenderness
  • Pain after beginning or end of menstrual period.
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding or spotting
  • Change in frequency or ease of urination (such as inability to fully empty the bladder), or difficulty with bowel movements due to pressure on adjacent pelvic anatomy
  • Weight gain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Infertility
  • Increased level of hair growth
  • Increased facial hair or body hair
  • Headaches
  • Strange pains in ribs, which feel muscular
  • Bloating
  • Strange nodules that feel like bruises under the layer of skin
